Description
KEF Reference 2 Meta Centre Channel Loudspeaker
The Benchmark of Centre Speakers, Condensed
The KEF Reference 2 Meta is a three-way closed box centre channel loudspeaker that brings the full acoustic philosophy and technological capability of The Reference Series to a compact and versatile enclosure designed for rooms where space matters without compromising on full-scale, high-performance sound. Featuring the 12th Generation Uni-Q driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology, the Reference 2 Meta has the uncanny ability to completely immerse the listener in both music and movies, anchoring the soundstage with the precision, naturalness, and authority that only a Reference-class loudspeaker can provide. It can also be used in a full LCR (Left-Centre-Right) configuration for those building a complete Reference-level home theatre system. Designed, engineered, and handcrafted at KEF’s home in Maidstone, Kent, every Reference 2 Meta can be matched within 0.5dB of the laboratory-maintained reference standard.
12th Generation Uni-Q with Metamaterial Absorption Technology
At the heart of the Reference 2 Meta is the 12th Generation Uni-Q driver array, positioning a 25mm aluminium dome tweeter with Metamaterial Absorption Technology at the acoustic centre of a 125mm aluminium cone midrange driver. This coaxial configuration allows both drivers to radiate from a single acoustic point source for inherent time alignment, phase coherence, and an exceptionally wide and consistent sweet spot across every seating position in the room. MAT absorbs the unwanted rearward sound energy of the tweeter that would otherwise introduce coloration into the acoustic output, delivering a purity of dialogue reproduction and musical clarity that sets the Reference 2 Meta apart from any conventional centre channel loudspeaker. Crossover frequencies of 450Hz and 2.1kHz ensure a seamless and coherent transition between the Uni-Q array and the bass drivers throughout the frequency range.
Twin Bass Drivers for Controlled, Authoritative Low-Frequency Performance
Two 165mm aluminium cone bass drivers provide the Reference 2 Meta with the low-frequency authority and dynamic impact required to anchor even the most demanding film soundstages and musical performances. With a frequency response of 80Hz to 35kHz within plus or minus 3dB, a free-field frequency range of 65Hz to 45kHz at minus 6dB, and a typical in-room bass response of 46Hz at minus 6dB, the Reference 2 Meta delivers the scale and weight of a full-size centre channel in a closed box enclosure of notably compact proportions. Harmonic distortion is held below 0.5% from 40Hz to 100kHz, below 0.2% from 200Hz to 2kHz, and below 0.1% from 2kHz to 20kHz, with a maximum output of 113.5dB and a sensitivity of 86dB at 2.83V/1m.
Designed, Engineered, and Handcrafted in the United Kingdom
Since 1961, KEF has been creating award-winning loudspeakers at its home in Maidstone, Kent, and the Reference 2 Meta continues this tradition with the care and precision that the Reference name has always demanded. At 22.8kg and 205 x 630 x 335mm with grille and terminal, the Reference 2 Meta is compact enough to site comfortably beneath most displays while delivering a sonic performance that is anything but compact. Available in five distinctive finish combinations including High-Gloss White with Champagne, High-Gloss White with Blue, Satin Walnut with Silver, High-Gloss Black with Grey, and High-Gloss Black with Copper, the Reference 2 Meta integrates naturally with any Reference Series floorstanding speaker for a visually and acoustically cohesive system.
