Sumiko Moonstone Cartridge
A Sumiko Moonstone Moving Magnet cartridge is installed as standard. Its low moving mass design and 0.3 × 0.7 mil elliptical diamond stylus support rich tonal weight, realistic texture, clarity and controlled imaging across a quiet background.
Precision Tonearm Design
The lightweight and highly rigid tonearm is constructed from dural aluminium with specialised damping materials. Its low noise vertical bearings use two precision ceramic surfaces with damping fluid, while the horizontal bearing employs a gimballed sapphire design.
Stable Belt Drive Platter
The solid black outer platter is belt driven and manufactured from dynamically balanced polyoxymethylene. Its substantial mass helps resist and absorb external vibration while providing flywheel action for stable rotational speed.
Precision Bearing Assembly
A CNC precision milled aluminium inner platter rotates on a polished and tempered steel shaft within a sintered bronze bushing. This carefully engineered assembly supports smooth and consistent playback.
Isolated Motor and Power Supply
The direct current motor is powered by an external voltage stabilised power supply and completely decoupled from the chassis. This isolation prevents mechanical interference from reaching the record during playback.
Resonance Controlled Construction
The sturdy plinth uses a highly compressed wood base with a black lacquer finish. Resonance optimised construction works with the acrylic top and middle plates to absorb unwanted vibration and reduce playback noise.
Distinctive McIntosh Illumination
A subtle green glow illuminates the area beneath the platter and the outer edges of the plinth. This understated lighting gives the MT2 a distinctive presence that complements other McIntosh components.
Flexible System Compatibility
The MT2 is compatible with McIntosh phono preamplifiers, stereo preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers and home cinema processors equipped with phono inputs. A clear contoured dust cover is included to protect the turntable.
