The Nordost QBASE Mark III is an elegantly conceived AC distribution unit that provides the stable, low-impedance power foundation that high-performing audio components require to realise their full potential. Addressing one of the most commonly overlooked sources of sonic degradation in any hi-fi system, the QBASE Mark III uses Nordost’s proprietary star-earth topology to eliminate the noise-inducing, conflicting flows of signal and ground paths that degrade imaging, tonal richness, and dynamic authority in even the most carefully assembled systems. Available in four-outlet (QB4) and eight-outlet (QB8) configurations, the QBASE Mark III impacts every component connected to it, improving each one in ways that are immediately and consistently audible.

Star-Earth Topology: A Unique Approach to AC Distribution

The QBASE Mark III’s star-earth topology connects all outlets from a single central point to the AC input, while additionally lifting the impedance level on every outlet except the one designated as the Primary Earth. This passive approach to ground management achieves three indispensable effects simultaneously: it creates an uninterrupted, straight-line AC distribution path from the wall to each individual component; it isolates each component by deterring ground flow between them; and it eliminates conflicting flow between signal and ground paths throughout the system. Critically, all of this is achieved without any form of in-line filtering or active circuitry, ensuring the lowest possible AC supply impedance is maintained at all times and no artificial processing is introduced into the power delivery chain.

Precision Engineering Throughout

Each QBASE Mark III is constructed from a mechanically tuned extruded aluminium body fitted with highly durable connectors engineered to maintain excellent connectivity after extended use. The Mark III’s dual-level PC-board configuration physically separates all ground connections from the line and neutral traces, minimising interference and crosstalk between live, neutral, and ground currents. Enhanced trace sizes on each optimised PC-board further maximise current flow and reduce crosstalk, and the unit is internally wired with Nordost Mono-Filament wire throughout. A resistance sink adds protection and more effectively damps eddy currents, while an external ground post allows connection to a separate clean earth for advanced installations. A dedicated fuse and one replacement fuse are supplied as standard.
