The Rega Nd7 is the flagship of Rega’s groundbreaking Nd Moving Magnet cartridge range, developed over ten years to deliver a level of performance that redefines what is possible from Moving Magnet technology. Building upon the revolutionary Neodymium N55 magnet and advanced generator design shared across the Nd range, the Nd7 elevates the formula to its highest expression with a precision fine line nude diamond stylus profile, the same profile employed on Rega’s own high-end Moving Coil models, the Apheta 3 and Aphelion 2. Meticulously handcrafted by Rega’s most skilled technicians, the Nd7 is a cartridge of exceptional ambition and extraordinary capability.
Fine Line Nude Diamond Stylus for Ultimate Detail Retrieval
The Nd7’s most significant advancement over the Nd5 is its precision fine line nude diamond stylus, which features an exceptionally small contact area with a minor radius of just 3 microns as viewed from above and 30 microns in the vertical plane. This minute contact area allows the stylus to respond immediately to the smallest variations in the vinyl groove, extracting levels of detail that are simply beyond the reach of elliptical profiles. Mounted on an aluminium cantilever and housed in Rega’s zero-tolerance glass-filled PPS body, this stylus and cantilever combination delivers the finest resolution the Moving Magnet format has to offer.
Revolutionary Neodymium Magnet Technology
At the core of the Nd7 is the Neodymium N55 magnet, the world’s most powerful commercially available magnet, which Rega believes makes the Nd range the world’s first Moving Magnet cartridges to employ this technology. The advanced generator geometry with perfect symmetry achieves highly accurate channel balance, while an optimised pole gap provides superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics, resulting in a far wider and more precisely defined soundstage than previous Rega Moving Magnet designs. Miniaturised parallel coils wound in-house with 38-micron wire and precisely 1,275 turns produce a low-inductance, low-impedance generator with vastly improved high-frequency response.
Glass-Filled PPS Body and Pivot Pad Design
The complete Nd7 assembly is housed in a zero-tolerance injection-moulded glass-filled polyphenylene sulphide body, a lightweight and highly rigid engineering material inspired by Rega’s successful Moving Coil range. The low-mass body reduces stress on tonearm bearings and aids free movement, both critical to accurate vinyl replay. Rega’s unique pivot pad design eliminates the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and the main body, greatly enhancing tracking ability and stylus stability throughout the record.
Factory Fitted Options and the Rega Rebuild Scheme
The Nd7 is available as a factory-fitted option on the multi-award-winning Rega Planar 6 and Planar 8 turntables, designed specifically with these models in mind and offered at a discounted rate compared to separate purchase. Rega’s rebuild scheme ensures the Nd7 remains a long-term investment: should the cartridge become worn or damaged, it can be returned to a Rega dealer for a fully tested rebuild cartridge fitted with a new cantilever, stylus, and pivot pad, at a cost equivalent to a replacement stylus from other manufacturers. The Nd7 is supplied in 100% recyclable packaging and backed by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
