Ruark Talisman-R Floorstanding Loudspeakers
A Legacy, in Tune with Now
When Ruark introduced the original Talisman in 1990, it did something most speakers never managed: it made people fall in love with how a speaker looked before they had even heard it play. That slim silhouette, that sloped baffle, the Talisman felt like it belonged in a home in a way that the rectangular, plain-faced speakers of the era simply did not. The Talisman-R carries this legacy forward with years of accumulated knowledge and a new level of acoustic performance, incorporating innovations that bring a genuinely modern standard of engineering to a design that marries perfectly with the Ruark 100 Series aesthetic. The connection between the original and the new is clear. The difference in performance is profound.
Natural, Pure Sound
Like the original Talisman, the Talisman-R is a high-quality two-way bass reflex loudspeaker that reflects Ruark’s longstanding preference for natural driver materials. A custom-designed 165mm long-throw treated fibre NS+ woofer with a 35mm two-layer copper voice coil and Strontium ferrite motor is paired with a 27mm silk dome tweeter featuring a neodymium motor, unified via a carefully optimised second-order crossover at 2.2kHz. Premium audio-grade film capacitors, low-loss inductors, and particular attention to phase integration ensure best signal transfer and reduced distortion throughout, delivering a lifelike stereo soundstage with a natural, deeply engaging character. Sensitivity is rated at 87dB with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms, and the Talisman-R is recommended for use with amplifiers rated between 50 and 250 watts.
Decoupled Baffle Technology and Exceptional Cabinet Engineering
In any loudspeaker, as much energy is transferred back into the cabinet as is projected forward, and controlling this energy is essential to achieving low-distortion sound. The Talisman-R addresses this with a new decoupled baffle design, where the front baffle is secured via elastomer bushes and a dual damping strip that prevent vibration from the drive units from passing into the main cabinet. The visible bolts on the front baffle are integral to this system rather than merely cosmetic. Internally, the 14.5-litre enclosure is carefully braced to further reduce resonance and lined with compound wadding that absorbs energy across a broad frequency range and controls internal standing waves. The tuned dual-flared bass reflex port is tuned to 42Hz for controlled, well-defined low-frequency extension to 40Hz in typical room conditions. The result is an enclosure with exceptionally low colouration and sound that is clean, natural, and thoroughly pure.
Made to Be Heard and Seen
The Talisman-R’s form makes it inherently stable, but Ruark has gone further by machining the plinth of each speaker from solid steel, with threaded corners accepting the supplied adjustable rubber feet and carpet spikes. This additional mass lowers the centre of gravity firmly towards the base, ensuring the speakers are securely grounded in any installation. Viewed from the front, the steel plinth gives the Talisman-R an attractive floating appearance that enhances the slim, distinctive silhouette inherited from the original. A removable magnetic grille frame with acoustically transparent fabric completes a speaker that is as considered in its appearance as in its engineering. Available in Fused Walnut veneer baffle with Charcoal cabinet, or Satin Charcoal lacquer baffle with Charcoal cabinet, the Talisman-R integrates naturally into any interior alongside the Ruark R710 or R610 Music Console.
