Sonus faber Olympica Nova II
Since 1983, many moments have marked the history of Sonus faber; the launch of the Olympica Collection in 2013 is one of them.
The Essence of a Brand
The original Olympica collection was one of the first lines presented as a complete family of products. And above all, it was the very first to feature original drivers, entirely designed within the Sonus faber “household”.
The All-New Olympica Nova
Olympica Nova is the second generation of that iconic product family of 2013. Improved in both its form and substance, the Olympica Nova range is imbued with the timeless values that inspired Sonus ƒaber in creating the original line.
The result is an entirely new collection of loud-speakers that embrace some of the most advanced Sonus ƒaber technologies and workmanship.
The First Floor-Standing Option
Olympica Nova II is the smallest floor stander of the collection,
but it expresses everything needed to satisfy the most demanding of acoustic requirements. The eye is first drawn to the distinctive shape of the Olympica Nova II. And the lack of flat and parallel walls improves enclosure performance and maintains the typical asymmetrical Lute form of first generation Olympica.
The asymmetrical shape of the cabinet is an original design concept that allows versatile positioning of the speakers to tune the bass response in any room.
Inspired by nature, the lines follow the flow of a circular spiral motion, achieving a more organic cabinet structure.
No longer just a functional element added to handle airflow, the reflex duct is now fully integrated into the cabinet, further improving the speed and transparency of sound.
KEY FEATURES:
• 3-way, compact, high-end, passive loudspeakers
• Floorstanding
• Output well-suited to mid-sized spaces
• Made in Italy
OUR THOUGHTS:
• A versatile floorstander for medium spaces.
• The finish meets the most fastidious of interior design values.
PrimaLuna EVO 400 Tube Integrated Amplifier
CUSTOM SUPER-WIDE-BANDWIDTH OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS
Output transformers are the most important part of any tube amp. They determine how low the bass will reach and how high the top end goes. 250 watts of power will have no top and bottom extension if the output transformers don’t have the bandwidth. PrimaLuna use lower power to extend tube life, and bandwidth to give you slam. Transformers are the most expensive components in an amplifier, so manufacturers save money by using ‘off the shelf’ units available on the market. PrimaLuna output transformers are custom-designed, wound in-house, and massive. One reason why no other brand sounds like a PrimaLuna. “The flat tops and bottoms of these squarewaves correlate with the amplifier’s extended low-frequency response; PrimaLuna’s output transformers are of excellent quality.” -John Atkinson, Stereophile Magazine
TRANSFORMER-COUPLED SUBWOOFER OUT
The number one problem people face when adding a subwoofer is integration to the main speakers. When you run the subwoofer at “line level” while your main speakers are hooked up to the amplifier, the signals have a different character or “transfer”. That’s why REL, the premier manufacturer of subwoofers, prefers using a “Speakon” connector hooking up their subwoofers to the same terminals the speakers are hooked up to. Now both speakers and sub get the same “flavour” and are easier to integrate together. In addition, most integrated amps have a subwoofer out that is not as robust as using the line out from a preamp. The result? Reduced dynamics.
But there are some very good subwoofers that only have an RCA line-level input. That’s why the subwoofer out on the EVO300 and 400 integrated amplifiers are transformer coupled.
Switchable from stereo to mono, PrimaLuna run right off the speaker taps of their amazing wide-bandwidth output transformers to a voltage-divider network and lower output to line level. Now your subwoofer and speakers are seeing the exact same signal, singing the exact same tune, for perfect coherence. PLUS you get the benefit of increased dynamics. No other brand offers this feature. Only PrimaLuna.
AC OFFSET KILLER – A PRIMALUNA EXCLUSIVE
AC Offset Killer is about goose bumps. The ones you get when music comes out of a background so quiet, you may say to yourself “Just how is this possible?” PrimaLuna custom-winds their own massive toroidal power transformers that are low in hum and EMI. But they wanted more. Their engineers designed the AC Offset Killer to lower transformer noise to a place no other manufacturer dreams of going, regardless of how bad your electricity is. The result? Sense of space. Texture. The resonance of an acoustic guitar or violin string that seems to trail on forever. The AC Offset Killer will amaze you.
TAKMAN RESISTORS
If you bought a lesser amplifier, you would pay hundreds to make this upgrade. Easy to identify through their pink color, these premium resistors from Japan are popular with those who rebuild and upgrade their gear. “Modders” love TAKMAN for their low noise, linearity, and musicality.
