Description
Rega Elex R MK4 Integrated Amplifier
Best in Class British Amplification
The Rega Elex R MK4 is a thoroughly refined and comprehensively connected integrated amplifier that combines Rega’s renowned power and clarity with a wider range of connectivity options than any previous Elex. Capable of driving difficult loudspeakers with complete ease, the Elex MK4 integrates naturally into any audio system, offering line level inputs, galvanically isolated digital inputs with an onboard DAC based on the acclaimed Rega DAC-R circuit, a high-quality Moving Magnet phono stage, a headphone output, pre-out, and record out functionality in a newly designed custom case that brings the Elex MK4 fully in line with the rest of the current Rega range. As AV Forums reviewer Ed Selley noted, there is no other amplifier at the price that offers the imperious ability of the Elex MK4, making it a genuine Best in Class at its price point.
Reengineered Class A/B Amplification Circuit
Rega’s engineers have completely reengineered the Elex circuit board for the MK4, optimising performance throughout and building on previous Rega designs with the company’s multi-award-winning Class A/B power amplifier circuit. The result is a powerful 72 watts per channel into 8 ohm loads, delivered with the authority and control needed to handle demanding loudspeaker loads without strain. Discrete circuitry, high-quality relays, polypropylene capacitors, and Sanken output transistors are used throughout the design, reflecting the same uncompromising approach to component selection that defines all of Rega’s electronics.
Rega DAC-R Based Digital Circuit
The Elex MK4’s digital section is based closely on the hugely successful Rega DAC-R circuit, with galvanically isolated digital inputs employing a Wolfson S/PDIF receiver IC for exceptional detail and clarity from any connected digital source. This level of digital performance, derived from a dedicated and award-winning standalone DAC design, is an exceptional inclusion at this price point and ensures that digital sources are reproduced with the same precision and musical engagement that Rega brings to every aspect of the Elex MK4’s design.
High-Performance Moving Magnet Phono Stage
A high-performance Rega-designed Moving Magnet phono stage is carefully integrated into the Elex MK4’s circuit. The RIAA equalisation has been split into two stages to minimise interaction between the equalisation networks, ensuring the phono stage delivers the quietness, accuracy, and musical engagement that Rega’s phono circuit designs are widely celebrated for. Vinyl enthusiasts connecting a turntable directly to the Elex MK4 can expect a level of phono performance that reflects Rega’s deep expertise in analogue replay.
Headphone Output, Custom Case, and Comprehensive Protection
Particular care has been taken in incorporating the headphone output on the Elex MK4. Speaker switching is performed by the output mute relay rather than interrupting the signal path, ensuring no loss of performance when the headphone output is not in use. The new custom case design brings the Elex MK4 fully in line with the rest of the current Rega range while providing improved heat dissipation by using the entire case as an ultra-efficient heat sink. Thermal cut-out, short circuit protection, and DC protection are all included to ensure long-term reliability and protection for both the amplifier and connected loudspeakers.
