The ATC SCM20PSL Classic is ATC’s flagship two-way passive stand-mount loudspeaker, and one of the most enduring designs in the history of high-fidelity audio. In continuous production since 1990 and evolved through four driver and crossover revisions into its current form, the SCM20PSL has earned a worldwide reputation among music and audio enthusiasts for its special combination of clarity, balance, midrange detail, and classic styling. Ideal for modestly sized rooms where performance cannot be compromised, the SCM20PSL’s sealed cabinet design ensures precise timing, excellent low-frequency output below the cut-off, and the ability to be placed relatively close to walls without excessive bass output, making it a practical as well as sonically exceptional loudspeaker for real listening rooms.
Handmade ATC Drive Units of Exceptional Capability
Both the mid-bass driver and tweeter of the SCM20PSL are handmade by ATC at the company’s facility in the United Kingdom. The 150mm mid-bass driver features a massive 75mm voice coil and a long-gap short-coil motor assembly incorporating ATC’s proprietary SL motor technology, providing exceptional control and linearity across the critical bass and midrange frequencies. The 25mm soft dome tweeter features ATC’s unique dual suspension design and a very high energy 2.1 Tesla motor, achieving a flux density that delivers the extended, colour-free high-frequency response and long-term performance stability that ATC’s professional heritage demands. Together they form the basis of an exceptional two-way monitor loudspeaker of matched response within plus or minus 0.5dB.
Hand-Made Crossover and Sealed Cabinet Construction
Integrating the SCM20PSL’s two drivers is a second-order crossover network at 2.2kHz, hand-made by ATC using oversize air-core inductors wound in-house and high-voltage polypropylene film capacitors for outstanding reliability and minimal losses. The cabinet is constructed to be heavy and inert, with a combination of internal bracing for stiffness and bitumastic damping panels deployed at critical positions to minimise cabinet colouration. The sealed cabinet design suppresses the low-frequency resonances of reflex port designs and ensures the precise timing and controlled bass behaviour that ATC’s monitoring philosophy demands. Heavy-duty bi-wire binding post terminals are provided, and the SCM20PSL is compatible with a very wide range of quality amplification, ideally suited to ATC’s own pre, power, and integrated amplifier designs.

The SCM20PSL is available in an unusually wide range of natural and gloss finishes, including Black Ash, Burr Magnolia, Cherry, European Walnut, Oak, Pippy Oak, Rosewood, Satin Black, Satin White, Walnut, Piano Black, and Piano White, with other veneers and finishes available to special order. The SCM20PSL is also available as a floorstanding tower model with identical performance in the form of the SCM20PSLT.
