ATC Driver Technology of the Highest Order
The SCM40A’s three-way driver complement represents ATC’s finest work in transducer design. The ATC 25mm dual suspension tweeter with precision alloy waveguide incorporates a secondary suspension component that constrains the moving assembly to travel only in the axial direction, suppressing rocking modes and lowering distortion while negating the requirement for ferro-fluid. A massive N48M Neodymium ring magnet achieves a flux density of over 2.0T in the magnetic gap, ensuring the motor assembly is fully saturated and free from flux modulation, with odd harmonic distortion reduced to below minus 70dB across the operating band. The ATC 75mm soft dome midrange driver and ATC 164mm short coil bass driver complete a driver array where all units incorporate massive optimised motor assemblies engineered to the same exacting standard.
Integrated Tri-Amplification and Active Crossover
The SCM40A’s on-board 242-watt Class A/B tri-amplifier delivers 150 watts to the LF driver, 60 watts to the MF driver, and 32 watts to the HF driver, each channel precisely matched to the power requirements and sensitivity of its dedicated driver. Fourth-order critically damped active crossover filters with phase compensation at 380Hz and 3.5kHz provide a level of crossover precision and phase coherence that no passive network can achieve. Active FET momentary gain reduction provides overload protection, DC fault protection and thermal trip protect the drivers and amplifier modules in all conditions, and a rear-panel mounted LED provides clear fault indication.
