The REL Planar PL-1 brings genuine REL subwoofer performance to smaller and medium-sized rooms where traditional subwoofers often feel intrusive, impractical, or visually incompatible with the living space. Designed to work in close relationship with the wall behind it, the PL-1 uses boundary effect coupling to deliver deep, articulate bass from an ultra-thin cabinet that integrates naturally into any interior. With a 300-watt Pure Class D amplifier, dual long-throw 6.5-inch active drivers, a 10-inch boundary-coupled passive radiator, and integrated Airship Direct wireless technology, the PL-1 is as technically accomplished as it is architecturally elegant. In many respects, it has become the Swiss Army Knife of REL subwoofers: equally effective in music systems, compact home theatres, unconventional placements, and centre-channel bass reinforcement applications.
Boundary-Coupled Bass Architecture
The PL-1 employs twin front-firing long-throw 6.5-inch FibreAlloy cone drivers developed from proven REL driver platforms, working together to increase surface area and impact while preserving the speed, articulation, and control that define REL performance. A specially tuned 10-inch FibreAlloy passive radiator fires toward the wall behind the unit, using boundary effect coupling to reinforce and expand low-frequency output across the listening space. With over 45mm of excursion, the passive radiator works in close relationship with the wall surface to produce surprisingly deep bass and remarkable scale from a cabinet just 144mm deep. Low-frequency extension reaches minus 6dB at 31Hz in room, delivering immersive and room-filling performance from a form designed to integrate gracefully into real living spaces.

REL’s fully analogue input filters preserve timing, tonal balance, and musical flow without the coloration introduced by digital signal processing, while the renowned REL High Level Connection allows the PL-1 to receive the same signal fed to your main speakers, creating a unified and coherent presentation across the full frequency range. All-analogue PerfectFilter circuitry completes a signal path of exceptional speed and clarity.

The PL-1’s ultra-thin cabinet, flowing edges, and deep lacquer finish allow it to transform underused wall space into an opportunity for serious low-frequency performance while preserving the openness and flow of the room. Simply connect power, position the PL-1, and experience true REL performance with the freedom of uncompromised wireless operation. For those who prefer a wired connection, HIGH-LEVEL Neutrik SpeakOn, LOW-LEVEL RCA, and LFE RCA inputs are all provided.
Flexible Placement for Any Space
The PL-1 does not need to be wall-mounted to perform at its best. It can be mounted directly on-wall using the included 90-degree mains lead and optional wall bracket, or positioned within the room on the optional Planar Cart for fully flexible free-standing placement. An anti-fall restraint system is included for additional stability in free-standing applications. Multiple PL-1 units can be combined for improved room coverage, bass consistency, and overall immersion, and the PL-1 integrates naturally into REL 3D immersive theatre systems alongside other REL subwoofer models.
