The Furman PS-8RE III is a 10-amp power conditioner and sequencer that combines Furman’s most advanced AC protection and filtering technologies with intelligent three-step power sequencing capability in a single, professionally engineered rack unit. Featuring Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP), Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT), Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS), and a high-current TVZ-MOV, the PS-8RE III provides virtually maintenance-free protection from surges and spikes while ensuring clean, linearly filtered AC power for unequalled audio and video clarity. The PS-8RE III introduces a lower-profile chassis and a redesigned rear panel that makes all settings and configuration accessible without removing the top cover, representing a meaningful practical improvement over its predecessors for professional installation environments.
SMP: Non-Sacrificial Surge Protection
Furman’s Series Multi-Stage Protection technology provides the highest level of surge and spike protection available, clamping at 376VAC peak and 266VAC RMS even when tested with multiple 6,000VAC and 3,000-amp surges, with a response time of 1 nanosecond and a maximum surge current handling of 6,500 amps. Unlike conventional sacrificial surge suppression circuits that degrade or destroy themselves when confronted with severe surge events, SMP safely absorbs, clamps, and dissipates damaging transient voltages without sacrificed components, service calls, or system downtime. Spike protection operates in line-to-neutral mode with zero ground leakage, protecting critical digital components from ground contamination throughout.
LiFT, EVS, and Three-Step Power Sequencing
Furman’s Linear Filtering Technology provides AC noise attenuation of 10dB at 10kHz, 40dB at 100kHz, and 50dB at 500kHz across a linear attenuation curve, eliminating the resonant peaking and non-linear behaviour of conventional AC filter designs that can actually worsen line noise under real-world conditions. Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) automatically powers down the unit and all connected equipment when overvoltage conditions above 275VAC are detected, with auto-reset restoring operation once the supply returns to a safe level.
The PS-8RE III’s sequencing capability allows a full rack of equipment to be powered on in a three-step delayed sequence, with the sequence reversed for power-down. Six rear panel sequenced IEC C13 outlets in three duplex groups are each controlled by a separate relay, with sequencing initiated via either momentary or maintained switches locally or remotely through the rear panel terminal block or front panel switch. Two additional switched rear panel outlets and one switched front panel outlet provide further flexibility. One or more additional Furman PS-8R E II units can be installed in remote locations and operated via low-voltage wiring, extending sequencing control across an entire installation. A rear panel BNC connector accommodates any standard gooseneck lamp for rear panel rack illumination.
